Day 12 – Kide & Cluj

Wow! What an incredible day so far, and we haven't even returned to Cluj for the evening concert. Our rental bus picked us up this morning at 9 and we were off to a small town outside of Cluj where our host, Tibor, preached. The community has 4 churches (Hungarian Reformed, Greek Catholic, Unitarian and Roman Catholic). The travel went on class 2, 3 and 4 roads. We didn't make it on to a class 5 road – probably a good idea since class 4 was gravel. Things were pretty tight on the bus. It seats 20 and we are traveling with 19. No spare room, seats and aisles are full. Fortunately it is only a 40 km trip.

The service was in Hungarian, but Tibor would occasionally let us know what was happening. The service was followed by a 35 minute program by our ringers and it was greatly appreciated by all. Lunch was a beautiful spread prepared by some of the church ladies.

We took a short walk around Kide after lunch and saw and experienced this village. The Reformed Church where we played was built in the 1200's. The Greek Catholic Church was from the 1700's and some of the houses were a mix of old and new. We saw a home that still had a thatched roof and it is being restored for a museum, but not completed yet.

The countryside has been an incredible journey for all of us. The village of Kide has NO land lines and few other amenities. Of the 180 inhabitants, only 2 are employed. The rest are working hard to grow and store food and take care of their needs. It was a trip that touched the hearts of those we encountered and we sure saw life from a different point of view.

Our return to Kolosvar (Cluj) took us to the Reformed Church we had visited yesterday. We followed a youth worship service and had another enthusiastic audience in another amazing acoustic.

It seems as though we may have the day off

from ringing tomorrow as we visit the city and then have an afternoon surprise. Good night!
