Day 8 – Skalica, SK

A restful day at last! We left Straznice, Czech at about 9 am and arrived in Skalica, Slovakia at about 9:30. after changing some money into Euros, we were all free for about 3 hours for walking around, eating ice cream or gelato, lunch, eating gelato, sight-seeing, eating gelato, sitting in the shade, eating gelato, etc… You probably get the picture.

We met at

1:30, walked the two blocks over to the Lutheran Church. The church and everything in it is original to the 1797 building and is a Nationally Preserved monument. Everything in it is original except for the electricity and the pastor. The organ was amazing and we used it for the Hymn to Joy and the Canon in D. We set up for our concert, rehearsed, rested, went over to the parish house for refreshment and played a wonderful concert at 6 pm. There were so many questions that I had the ringers answer many of them today instead of me. I think they loved our ringing and the unique sounds of handbells and handchimes.

Dinner followed, and then all we off to their host families. A peaceful day for all – and some rest to make up for lost time.
